Training and Education

I lead the design and creation of online professional education courseware for the Lincoln Laboratory Supercomputing Center (LLSC). (The courses can be found at https://learn.llx.edly.io.)

In addition to creating online courses, I host an IAP course every year called "Practical High Performance Computing" with my colleague Lauren Milechin.  Our goal is to help learners use our High Performance Computing (HPC) systems effectively, and to demistify HPC in general.  Our learners are mainly adult professionals whose objective is to learn the material in order to further their research agenda rather than obtain a grade.  While this leads to engaged learners who are driven by a goal, one challenge is developing appropriate metrics and methods of evaluation.  One current research effort is to use our real-world learning objectives as our metric and capture data that will help us determine whether or not the courseware leads to increased effectiveness when using an HPC system.
